Stress & Rescue (SSI)
The SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course is designed to enhance a diver’s ability to prevent and manage diving emergencies. It focuses on recognizing stress, accident prevention, and effectively handling emergency situations, both for oneself and for fellow divers. This course is pivotal for divers aiming to increase their safety awareness and confidence underwater.
Prerequisites
To enroll in the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue course, participants must:
- Minimum Age: 12 years old.
- Certification: Hold an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent.
- First Aid Training: Possess a valid First Aid and CPR certification, such as SSI’s React Right, completed within the last 24 months.
Course Structure
The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills:
- Academic Sessions: Typically 6 sessions covering topics like stress recognition, emergency management, and rescue techniques.
- Confined Water Sessions: 3 sessions in a controlled environment to practice rescue skills.
- Open Water Dives: 3 dives to apply learned skills in real-world scenarios.
Duration
The course is generally completed over 3 to 4 days, with a total suggested duration of 10 to 15 hours.
Certification Outcome
Upon successful completion, participants receive the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue Specialty certification, which:
- Is recognized worldwide.
- Counts towards the SSI Master Diver rating.
- Enhances a diver’s ability to handle emergencies and assist others effectively.
